Your lines stay on your iPhone

One Meow keeps your lines on your iPhone and nowhere else. No account, no server, no ads, no tracking and no analytics in the app.

This policy covers the One Meow app for iPhone and this website, onemeow.app. In it, “we” means Jane.

The short version

  • Your lines, moods, tags and settings are stored only on your iPhone.
  • One Meow has no account, no sign-in and no server. We never see your lines.
  • There are no ads, no tracking, no analytics and no crash reporting in the app. (This website uses Google Analytics; see below.)
  • The only time the app talks to anything outside your iPhone is the optional Honorable Kotik purchase, which goes through Apple.

What the app stores, and where

On your iPhone, inside One Meow's own storage:

  • Your lines: the text (up to 200 characters), the day it belongs to, its mood and tags, whether it's a favourite, the prompt you used if any, and when it was written and changed.
  • Your prompts and favourite prompts.
  • Your settings: appearance, colour theme, typeface, app icon, reminders and their times, the lock, export format and similar choices.
  • The cats you've collected, and whether you're an Honorable Kotik.

The widgets read your streak and today's line from a container shared between the app and its widgets on the same iPhone. With the lock on, widgets show only your streak.

Nothing is synced to iCloud, and nothing is sent to us or anyone else.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. One Meow asks for permission only when you turn one on. Notifications never show your lines.

Face ID and the lock

The lock uses Apple's Face ID and passcode check on your iPhone. One Meow never sees or stores your face data or your passcode; it only learns whether the check passed.

Siri and Shortcuts

One Meow offers Shortcuts to write today's line, read a line from this day and check your streak. They run on your iPhone when you use them. While the lock is on, Siri won't read your lines. Requests you make to Siri are covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Backups and export

When you tap Export my entries, One Meow makes a JSON or text file of your lines and hands it to the share sheet. Where it goes from there, for example Files or iCloud Drive, is your choice, and that service's own privacy terms apply. Import reads a backup file only when you pick one.

The Honorable Kotik purchase

Honorable Kotik is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, your Apple Account and Family Sharing; we never receive your payment details or your name. The app asks the App Store whether you've bought it, and keeps the answer on your iPhone. Apple's privacy policy covers the purchase itself.

Deleting your data

Settings, Delete all data removes every line, setting, reminder and temporary export file from One Meow. Deleting the app removes everything too. Because we hold no copy, we can't recover your lines; keep a backup if you might want them later.

Children

One Meow collects no personal information from anyone, children included.

This website

This website, not the app, uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, but only if you say yes in the cookie banner. Until you do, no analytics script runs and no analytics cookie is set. You can change your answer any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. With your yes, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your browser, device and approximate location. We use it only to improve the site; we don't sell it or use it for ads. Google's use of this data is described at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a short time to run and protect the service. If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting anything, we'll say so here and in the app first.
